Mayor Adrian M. Fenty’s Spring 2008 Citywide Job Fair to Be Held Tuesday,
March 11
The DC Department of Human Resources (DCHR), in partnership with the DC
Department of Employment Services (DOES), is proud to announce
Mayor Adrian M. Fenty’s Spring
2008 Citywide Job Fair* will be held on Tuesday, March 11,
2008 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center from 11 am to 6 pm.
More than 50 District agencies along with another 100 private and federal employers are expected to exhibit at what DCHR Director Brender L. Gregory said is the premiere citywide recruiting event. DOES will also be registering District youth for the Mayor’s Summer Youth Program at the event. The event is free and open to all jobseekers and no preregistration is necessary. More than 17,000 jobseekers and 150 exhibitors participated in Mayor Fenty’s August 2007 Fair at the Walter E. Convention Center. DCHR hopes to build on that success and give participants the opportunity to find a job that best matches their talents and experience, said DCHR Director Brender L. Gregory. “The Mayor’s Spring 2008 Citywide Job Fair will provide the residents of District of Columbia and across region access to premiere employers,” Gregory said. “We want everyone actively looking for employment to have the opportunity to meet face-to-face with the city's top employers in a single location.” Employers in the private and federal sector can register to exhibit at the Job Fair now by visiting the Job Fair Information Page or can call (202) 442-9700 now to have registration information emailed to them.
Wheelchair users on ice world record attempt
An unusual Guinness World Records attempt will take place at the Eden Project, St Austell, Cornwall on Saturday 19 January 2008. Wheelchair users from all over the country are being invited to establish a world record for the largest ever gathering on ice. This is a record that has never been set before.
The record attempt is being coordinated by Leanne Grose to celebrate the launch of her DVD Leanne's Chair Workout – which was filmed at the Eden Project. Over 60 wheelchair users have already pre-registered.
Leanne, who had her left leg amputated at the age of 25, says: "There are not many opportunities for people in wheelchairs to get involved in exercise and set world records, I wanted to do something which every wheelchair user could join in with and have fun. "Being on the ice at the Eden Project is a wonderful experience and the whole place is just great. I'm sure everybody who takes part will get a real buzz from it."
The record attempt will take place from 11am and all wheelchair users and their carers will get free entry to the Eden Project. All those who take part will receive a special certificate.
In addition to the record attempt, there will be a special display by the Cornish Wheelchair Dance Group, Leanne will give a motivational talk and will be available to sign copies of her new autobiography, Just A Step, and her DVD, Leanne's Chair Workout between 12.30pm – 2.00pm.
